Description
32045 ICM Gloucester Sea Gladiator Mk.I With Royal Navy Pilots Kit 1/32 The Fleet Air Arm (FAA) at the beginning of World War II consisted of 20 squadrons with 232 aircraft. The tasks of naval aviation were reconnaissance, battleship fire adjustment, strike operations against warships and merchant air transport ships. Squadrons consisted of 9-12 aircraft of the same type, although sometimes their composition was mixed. A characteristic feature of the British naval aviation before World War II was a large number of biplane aircraft. This is due to their better flight characteristics when landing on a deck in the open sea. The single-seat biplane fighter Gloster Sea Gladiator was produced since 1938 and was a naval version of the land-based Gladiator fighter. The deck-based version differed from the land-based version in its reinforced lower wing, modified equipment, landing hook and rescue boat in a fairing under the fuselage. A total of 60 Gloster Sea Gladiators were built between December 1938 and February 1939, with a further 38 aircraft produced by converting land-based fighters of the Gladiator Mk.II modification.
