This great painting is attributed to John Constable Royal Academy (1776–1837). The stormy seascape is an oil on canvas laid to wood panel. It measures aprox 9.75" x 6.25" and has a beautiful gilded frame that adds another 2" to each side. It is signed in red Constable RA. About the artist from the internet John Constable RA , ( 11 June 1776 – 31 March 1837) was an English landscape painter in the R omantic tradition. Born in S uffolk , he is known principally for revolutionising the genre of landscape paintings with his pictures of D edham Vale , the area surrounding his home – now known as "Constable Country" – which he invested with an intensity of affection. "I should paint my own places best", he wrote to his friend John Fisher in 1821, "painting is but another word for feeling".
