Description

Maker : The green underglaze mark on the base of this beautiful fine porcelain gravy boat or sauce dish is the backstamp of Royal Austria O&EG, the company begun by Oscar and Edgar Gutherz of Altrolau, Bohemia, in what is now the Karlovy Vary region of the Czech Republic. The company had a brief but illustrious history, producing expertly decorated porcelain wares in association with the renowned international importer Lazarus Straus & Sons. In 1918 it became part of OEPIAG, or Österreichische Porzellan Industrie AG, the consortium of Austrian porcelain making, and the Royal Austria brand was retired. Age : The mark on this gravy boat was in use between 1899 and 1918, meaning it is at least 101 years old. Design : On each side of the gravy boat is a detailed fish expertly hand painted on pure white high quality porcelain. Under the wide spouts is a design of delicate pink roses and tiny blue flowers amid a burst of small green leaves. Size : The gravy boat is is 7 1/2 inches long, 2 5/8 inches tall and 3 1/8 inches wide at the center. Condition : It is in excellent condition, specially considering its age and fragile material.
