Vintage French Watercolor, “Royal Ship of the King of France (17th century)”, Signed “ A. Sivirine ”, 1952 T his vintage French watercolor shows a 17th century royal ship of the King of France arriving at the port of Marseille, as marked on the back. The ship flies the white battle flag of the kingdom of France and is escorted by a rowboat. On the left can be seen the 17th century Fort Saint-Jean , built by order of Louis XIV . This watercolor is dated “ 1952 ” and signed “ A. Sivirine ”. It is possibly an early work by Alexis Sivirine , engineer and draughtsman on board the Commandant Cousteau’s ship, the “ Calypso ””, and also co-author, along with Jacques-Yves Cousteau , of the book, “ Calypso ”. This watercolor is in very good condition with the exception of a few stains.
